Adding Devices

In MSP N-central, a device is Network device, such as a router; a Mobile device, such as a cellphone; or a Cloud Service device, such as an Office 365 resource.

Add a network device

  1. In the navigation pane, click Views to expand the section.
  2. Click All Devices.
  3. Select the Network Devices tab and click Add.
  4. Select the appropriate option from one of the following:
  5. Follow the steps provided by the individual wizards.

Add a mobile device

  1. In the navigation pane, click Views to expand the section.
  2. Click All Devices and select the Mobile Devices tab.
  3. For iOS devices, Setup Prerequisites as follows:
    1. Verify that your MSP N-central server can communicate outbound over ports 443, 2195 and 2196 to gateway.push.apple.com.
    2. Install a valid SSL certificate on your MSP N-central server. For more information, refer to Certificate Management.
    3. Obtain an Apple Push Notification Service certificate. For more information, refer to Apple Push Notification Service (APNS).
  4. To use SMS messaging with mobile devices, Get a CDYNE key for sending SMS messages. For more information, refer to Requirements for Managing Mobile Devices.
  5. Click Invite Mobile Devices to Create an Invitation Job to get Mobile Devices to register with MSP N-central. For more information, refer to Inviting Mobile Devices To Be Managed By N-central.

Add a cloud service device

This procedure can only be done at the Customer or Site-level.

  1. In the navigation pane, click Actions > Add/Import Devices.
  2. Under Manually Create a Device that Represents a Cloud Service, click Add Device.
  3. Configure the properties of the device in the Add Device screen and click Save.

Add a device from the All Devices view

  1. In the navigation pane, click Views to expand the section.
  2. Click All Devices.
  3. Select the appropriate tab as either Network Devices, Mobile Devices, or SaaS Devices.

    1. Click Add.
    2. Select the appropriate option from one of the following:
      • Create a New Discovery Job
      • Import Devices
      • Install a Windows Probe to Discover the Network
      • Install an Agent on a Single Workstation or Server
      • Manually Create a Device that Represents an External Website or IP Address
    3. Follow the steps in the individual wizards.
    1. For iOS devices, follow the instructions to Setup Prerequisites (for Apple Devices Only).
    2. For SMS messaging with mobile devices, follow the instructions to Get a CDYNE key for sending SMS messages.
    3. Click Invite Mobile Devices to Create an Invitation Job to get Mobile Devices to register with MSP N-central.
    1. To manually create an SaaS device, navigate to the appropriate Customer or Site.
    2. Click Actions > Add/Import Devices.
    3. Under Manually Create an SaaS Device, click Add Device.
