Adding Services

You can add services to be monitored on a device either to a single device or to multiple devices at the same time.

When adding services to one device, MSP N-central lists the services that are available based on the device's class, monitoring options, and the selected monitoring probe.

When adding services to multiple devices, MSP N-central lists only the services that are available to all of the selected devices based on the device class, monitoring options, and selected monitoring Probe.

If a Workstation - Generic and a Workstation - Windows are selected, only the services that can be monitored by both types of device classes will be listed.

When adding services to multiple devices, the number of instances displayed for each service is based on the least number remaining for all of the devices.

If the number of instances of the CPU service remaining for Device A is 1 and for Device B is 0, the number of instances displayed for both devices will be 0.

After adding services, you must ensure that the service's information displayed on the Service Details tab and the Thresholds tab is accurate.

Only services that have been enabled can be monitored on the status dashboards.

  1. In the navigation pane, click Views > All Devices.
  2. Select the check box next to the device or devices you want to add services to.
  3. Click Add Services.
  4. Select the Monitoring Appliance in the Add Services screen.

    If you are adding services to more than one device, only the services available to all of the devices are displayed.

  5. Specify the number of Instances for each service that you want to add.

    For the Asigra Backup and XiloCore Backup services, you will need to select the specific type of service that you want to add from the drop-down list displayed in the Services column.

    Set the Instances of the Windows Applications and Services Logs to any number smaller than Max Instances.

  6. Click OK.

    For the Backup Exec, Asigra Backup, and XiloCore Backup services, the Discovered Jobs screen will appear. For all other services, the Devices screen will appear and the selected services will have been added. If any of the selected services could not be added to all of the devices, a System Error screen displays those services.

  7. For the Backup Exec, Asigra Backup and XiloCore Backup services, select the check box next to the discovered backup jobs that you want to monitor.

    A service cannot be added to a device if the device has exceeded its task limit. A service grouping cannot be added to a device if one of the services in the service grouping cannot be added to the device.

  8. Click Add.
