Add an SMS service

An SMS is a service that enables you to send or receive text messages from your cell phone. You can only use an SMS if your cellular telephone provider has a Telocator Alphanumeric Protocol (TAP) or Unified Communications Portal (UCP) gateway.

The SMS services that you add in the NAC appear in the user interface when setting up an SMS notification method for an account.

When you use an SMS notification method, MSP N-central sends notifications to the SMS service, which then forwards the notification to a cell phone. MSP N-central does not send notifications directly by dialing its number.

  1. On the Administrator Console in the Product Settings area, click SMS Services.
  2. Click Add SMS Service.
  3. In the Alias field, enter the name that appears in the user interface when selecting a SMS service for a user notification.
  4. Enter the Gateway Number of the cell phone provider's TAP or UCP.

You can obtain its number from your cellular telephone provider.

  5. If required, enter the Password for accessing the TAP or UCP gateway.

The password must not exceed six characters. The default is 000000.

  6. In the Maximum Characters Accepted field, enter the maximum number of characters that you can appear on the phone.

The limit for an SMS service is 161 characters.

  7. Select the Modem Setting that corresponds to the settings of the SMS service.
  8. Click OK.

The SMS service appears on the table. When configuring notification method for a user, the SMS service alias appears in the Pater Service drop-down list box.

To edit the SMS service information, click the name of the service.
