Locate devices that have not checked in for over 30 days

The MSP N-central server can become cluttered with old devices that have been decommissioned or simply lost. The legacy devices clutter the display of valid devices you need to monitor. MSP N-central includes a filter that you can use to identify these devices.

  1. Click ViewsAll Devices.
  2. Click Filter and select Agent Check in over 30 Days from the drop-down list box.

A list of devices is displayed, showing those that either has an Agent that has not checked in with MSP N-central in over a month, or a Windows device that has no agent at all (indicated by two dashes "--" in the Agent Version column.

You can install the agent again to activate the device in MSP N-central

  1. Click the device Name and click the Settings tab.
  2. Click the t the Local Agent tab.
  3. Click the check box for Install Local Agent.
  4. Click OK to confirm, and click Save.
  5. Click the check box again to enable Install Local Agent and select the local probe.
  6. Do not use "Best Available," unless necessary.

  7. Click Save.

MSP N-central reinstalls the agent on the device. If the agent still refuses to deploy to the device, you should consider deleting it from MSP N-central; if it has not reported to MSP N-central in over a month, it is likely that the device has been decommissioned.

For servers, since servers are usually a more critical part of a network, you need to ensure that a server which is not responding has been taken offline intentionally or that the monitoring Agent has been removed on purpose.

Address the issue directly with the client or your technical team. If it has indeed been decommissioned, then you may want to consider deleting it.

The first time you use this filter it is likely that you will have many devices to deal with. Subsequent uses should be less cluttered, assuming you are able to keep up the suggested weekly routine.

Typically the best defense against a large list of defunct devices is to have a strong change management plan in your environment. Think as a team on how changes in the field to hardware can be reliably reflected back in MSP N-central.
